Why I love this chipped beef dip recipe

I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas! Mine was wonderful but a little bittersweet since my husband is back in France without me. Luckily, I got to spend time with my family here in Wisconsin and we had lots of snow.

Old Philadelphia pecan dip is something that we only had at Christmas time when I was growing up (at least that’s the only time I remember having it), but it would make a great appetizer/party dip for any day of the year.

It was something that I never ate when I was actually a kid, but I remember it always being there and now thatI’m older, I love it.

How to make chipped beef dip

Prep your ingredients. Bring the cream cheese to room temperature (or close to it), and chop the peppers and dried beef.

If you need to chop your pecans, do that too. But I recommend buying pecan pieces that are already chopped to make this even easier.

Assemble the dip. In a mixing bowl, with an electric mixer, beat the cream cheese and mayonnaise until combined. Add the dried beef, bell pepper, onion, garlic and salt.

Mix until combined. Transfer the mixture to a pie plate and top with pecans.

Bake until warm. Pop the pie plate into the oven and bake for 15 – 20 minutes, or until the dip is warmed throughout and bubbling along the edges.

FAQ’s and tips for making chipped beef dip

How do you make chipped beef less salty?

If you find that chipped beef is too salty for your liking you’re not alone. The good news is that you can remove some excess salt by simply soaking the beef in hot water for about 10 minutes prior to using. Then squeeze out as much excess water as possible before adding it to your recipe.

Can you freeze chip beef dip?

While you certainly could, you may not want to. A lot of the time products like cream cheese (with or without dairy) don’t freeze and thaw well. They become chunkier or crumble. That said, this dish is baked so it could help to melt the texture down and make it less noticeable of a difference.

Is chip beef dip gluten free?

This chip beef recipe is gluten free! None of the ingredients requested should contain any gluten, but if you’re gluten free due to an allergy, make sure that you double check for cross contamination warnings. Also, you’ll want to make sure that your chips/crackers (whatever you’re dipping into it) are gluten free as well.

What can I use if I don’t have a pie plate or tart pan?

If you don’t have a pie plate or tart pan handy, you can simply use any oven-safe baking dish. Even a cast iron skillet could get the job done. While some plates or dishes might make it look prettier than others, the most important thing is being able to get it in the oven to warm up and into that gooey dip we’re looking for.

  2. Where would I find dried beef?

    Reply

    1. I found dried beef in the refrigerated meat section near the bacon and hot dogs and pepperoni. Chipped beef is another name that you could find it under – it is the same thing as dried beef. I have also heard that you can buy it in a jar, but I haven’t done that before. I hope that helps!

Looks amazing and even though I’ve never tried it, I can totally see why people associate it with Christmas time and holidays. I bet it goes great with a cup of hot chocolate. Thanks for sharing the recipe. Cheers!
